Hockey for Heroes Tour by James Clapham Arkade Property
Hockey has been a passion of mine for well over two decades now, taking me all over the world from as close as Wales, to as far afield as Australia. It is a sport that has always given me far more in return than I have given to it and so when I was invited into a charity side three years ago it was an opportunity I jumped at.
That team was called Hockey for Heroes, a team which raises funds for Help for Heroes, benefiting our servicemen and women with both physical and mental injuries.
The charity was formed a little over 6 years ago and has gone from strength to strength raising well over £50,000 before the latest adventure began.
2 years ago we did a tour of 33 hockey matches and walking the 3 peaks. In May this year we were to go even bigger.
Named ‘Operation Stretcher’, we were to walk 200 miles, carrying an injured serviceman, playing 30 games of hockey and all in the space of 10 days.
Ambitious? Probably.
Stupid? More than likely.
Worthwhile? Most certainly.
With the dust having now settled and the tour completed we can confirm that over £60,000 has been raised.
Enough thanks cannot be given to those who sponsored and came to support on each and every day, these wonderful sponsors include:
ABA Commercial Insurance
BNI Moseley quiz hosted at The White Swan in Harborne
Celixir
Barrington Sports
The next men’s tour will be in 2019, so watch this space ...
